Tooling and die charges are one-time costs associated with creating the custom cutting dies used to manufacture your corrugated boxes. A die is a specialized tool, typically made from a wooden base with embedded steel cutting rules and creasing rules, that cuts and scores flat corrugated sheets into the precise shape of your box blank. Every unique box design requires its own die.
These charges appear as a separate line item on your quote because they represent a fixed investment that does not repeat on subsequent orders of the same design. Once the die is made and stored, it is used for every future production run of that box, making it a long-term asset for your packaging program.
